So, how the healthcare industry got to advanced tools like wireless equipment, gadgets and DICOM viewer Mac? Let’s know!

    The Early Medical Records

Greeks are believed to be the first people who documented medical records. They used to write cure and medication in written form. The purpose was to share the cure and care as well as treatment with other medical professionals and educate people about diseases. The first ever written medical records of patients were discovered that belonged to the 16th and 17th centuries.

    In 1920s

With the passage of time, science made advancement and doctors believed there is a dire need to document the medical records in better ways. In 1600, a method was devised for medical records but it could be implemented until 1920. American College of Surgeons did efforts in 1928 to standardize the medical records and for this reason, American Health Information Management Association was established. They kept records in documented forms.

    In 1960s

Over time, hospitals realized there is a need of standard medical information system but the cost was an issue and it could not succeed. In 1960, nurses collected patient data for reimbursement. Four years later, a hospital information system was developed that focused on keeping medical records. It could not proceed further as the industry could not understand needs of the healthcare sector.

During this time, computers were being used for billing and records. Some hospitals used information systems just for tests and keeping important data. Access was not given to everyone.

    In 1980s

It is said that first integrated efforts for medical records was made in 1970s. University Medical Centre in 1971 in Burlington created a system that was customer centric and it was a comprehensive system that included costs, diseases, overview, conditions, treatment and other details. However, time kept passing and science also made some improvements. With this, the hospitals hardly had any good medical record and information keeping system.

    In 2000s

After 1980s, the doctors and hospitals felt there is a dire need for information system. For this reason, in 1980, Indiana Network for Patient Care (INPC) was developed and it remained very successful. It is still in use and has more than 100 hospitals integrated within the system serving millions of patients.

By 2000, the hospitals were looking for solutions for information system, internet became popular at that time and also DICOM viewer Mac and PC. However, the input from government remained very low in this regard and it was the reason why there was no significant improvements over years. In 2000, American president Bush stressed on an electronic system for health data and information. This was the foundation of Electronic Health Records.

    In 2010s

After 2004, serious efforts were made for a medical record and information system. By 2015, more than 95% hospitals in the US are using Electronic Health Records and tools DICOM free online viewer Mac. This helped a lot in dealing with the patients and maintaining their data. However, the future is more about cloud computing for storing data. No physical or onsite storage systems will suffice for the big data. Cloud computing will be more popular in the future for keeping and maintaining medical health records.
